Yverdon Energies is a public-sector company responsible for the distribution of electricity, gas and drinking water, and for managing the public lighting network in the town of Yverdon-les-Bains. We also distribute gas and water to many neighboring villages. Aware of the importance of a new energy policy dictated by the creation of a Climate Plan in 2023, Yverdon Energies places sustainable development at the heart of its projects and is committed to encouraging and promoting energy efficiency and renewable energies.
The Swiss voted overwhelmingly in favor of the new Electricity Act in June 2024, marking their desire to guarantee a secure, affordable and renewable electricity supply and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. For its part, the City of Yverdon-les-Bains is pursuing its commitment to sustainability, which will be reflected in the award, in 2023, of the European “Cité de l’énergie Gold” label, the highest distinction in this field. Against this backdrop, the Municipality published its 1st generation Municipal Climate Plan in January 2023, after nearly 15 months’ work and a participatory approach. In particular, it affirms its commitment to combating climate change and to reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2030, compared with 2019. Yverdon-les-Bains Energies, in close collaboration with the companies Y-CAD, Y-Solaire and Sagenord, works on a daily basis to implement the energy and climate policy of the City of Yverdon-les-Bains. By 2050, our vision is to be a city supplied with local, sustainable energy and clean water, consuming little energy and approaching carbon neutrality. Several large-scale projects are underway to achieve this goal. For example, the development of a district heating network, powered almost exclusively by local resources such as wood and energy from the wastewater treatment plant, or in future, geothermal energy. The development of solar energy through the Y-Solaire company is another way of providing Yverdonnois with a sustainable, local energy supply. This eco-responsible approach is very close to my heart, and I salute the commitment of the Yverdon-les-Bains Energies teams, who work every day to limit our impact on the environment.
For many years, the staff at Yverdon-les-Bains Énergies have actively contributed to the development of energy policies and their local implementation. The modernization of our networks, notably through the deployment of smart meters, dynamic public lighting and the development of a public recharging network for electric mobility, will enable us to meet tomorrow’s energy challenges. At the same time, we are actively collaborating with start-ups and the academic world to explore new ideas and co-create innovative solutions to accelerate the energy transition. These partnerships enable us to keep pace with technological advances, while cultivating a spirit of collaboration. Finally, we are convinced that our success depends on our talents. That’s why we are committed to offering an attractive working environment, focused on skills development, professional fulfillment and innovation.

Sagenord’s objectives are to produce, purchase, distribute and exchange drinking water and fire-fighting water, in order to meet the water needs of partner communes and associations of communes in the Yverdon-les-Bains – Grandson region, in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and legal requirements, on a not-for-profit basis.
District heating can contribute to future-oriented heat production, particularly in densely populated urban and suburban areas. The purpose of Y-CAD SA is to design, build and operate distribution networks and thermal energy production facilities (in particular, district heating and cooling) in the town of Yverdon-les-Bains and surrounding areas.
To accelerate photovoltaic electricity production in Yverdon-les-Bains, the town and the VOénergies group have joined forces to create Y-Solaire SA. Its expertise focuses on the financing, project planning, construction and operation of photovoltaic power plants.
Yverdon-les-Bains, which joined the Cité de l’énergie process in 2003 and obtained its first certification in 2010, is a town with a long-term commitment. In 2023, it will be awarded the European “Cité de l’énergie Gold” label. It seeks to set an example in terms of energy policy and respect for the environment, through the actions of its departments and administration, and also wishes to serve as a model for the city’s entire population, through regular information and the implementation of incentive measures.
The actions highlighted thanks to the Cité de l’énergie label aim to make the Yverdon area more resilient to the effects of climate change and to create a quality environment in which the population can enjoy a good quality of life.
