CAD Lotus is the first district heating system in Yverdon-les-Bains. Operational since the summer of 2015, it supplies a total of 10 GWh/year of heat to the Grand Hôtel des Bains and the Thermal Centre from a plant operated by the Hospitaliers du Nord Vaudois (eHnv). Part of the heat production is provided by a "Heat-Power Coupling" which also makes it possible to cover a large part of the eHnv's electricity needs. CAD Lotus' performance has made it possible to reduceCO2 emissions by 22% compared with the previous situation.
As part of its energy planning, the City of Yverdon-les-Bains wishes to develop other thermal networks.
Two of them are currently under consideration:
The first one, called "CAD STEP", will be fed mainly by the discharges of water from the WWTP. This network will supply many existing buildings or those to be built as part of the new Gare-Lac district located between the lake and the railway tracks. This "low-temperature" network will be able to operate simultaneously as a CAD and FAD: it should be deployed as early as 2018 and by 2025 it should have a thermal production capacity of around 11 MW, for heating and cooling the buildings connected to it.
The second, called "CAD Santal", will be mainly wood fuelled. This district heating will supply existing districts (Pierre de Savoie, Les Isles, Moulins, CPNV and Léon Michaud college) and a new district (Roseyres) located in the south-east of the municipality, as well as a new arrival in Y-Parc: Kinder City. This infrastructure should be deployed as of 2017 in coordination with the construction of the bypass road, to reach a thermal power of approximately 10 MW by 2030.
Since mid-December 2016, Yverdon-les-Bains Énergies has been a member of theSwiss District Heating Association (ASCAD), the association of companies and private individuals involved in the development and production of installations for district and local heating and cooling systems.
