HydroContest Team HEIG-VD

For the second consecutive year, Yverdon-les-Bains Énergies is supporting the HEIG-VD Team's adventure on the occasion of the HydroContest, the first international student competition dedicated to nautical and maritime energy efficiency.

This competition brings together future engineers and architects from all over the world around a major issue: Transporting more, faster and using less energy.

Today, 90% of international trade is transported by inland waterway around the world. However, maritime transport is responsible for 120 million tonnes ofCO2 released into the atmosphere every year and starting a single container ship generates as much pollution as 15,000 cars starting simultaneously!

It is therefore important to reflect and innovate in order to develop new technologies to move towards more sustainable maritime transport. As part of the HydroContest, students are invited to design, build and pilot the most energy-efficient boat. The aim of the event is also to raise awareness among tomorrow's engineers of the design of efficient marine technologies that can be transposed to industry, while allowing the most promising projects to emerge and develop with a view to improving the ecological balance of maritime transport.

Participate and also support this adventure by following the preparation and launching of the boats before the Competition which will take place in September 2017 in St-Tropez!
