With 146 million kilowatt-hours of wind power produced in 2019, production was 20% higher than in 2018. The vast majority of Swiss wind farms had a record year. With 37 wind turbines, however, the share of electricity consumption from wind power in Switzerland does not even reach 0.5 percent. In Austria, around 1,400 wind turbines covered 13% of our neighbours' electricity consumption last year.
In the Bernese Jura, for example, the 16 wind turbines on Mont-Crosin produced 83 million kilowatt hours, 23% more than in 2018. Another example: in the canton of Jura, the two wind turbines in St-Brais produced 8.4 million kilowatt hours, 23% more than in the previous year. The Gütsch Alpine wind farm in Andermatt with its four wind turbines, located at an altitude of 2332 m, produced 6.13 million kilowatt hours, 21% more than in 2018.
15% at the European level
National Wind Energy Conference 2020
The National Wind Energy Congress 2020, organised by Suisse Eole, will be held on Wednesday afternoon, 25 March 2020, in Bern. Among other things, Suisse Eole will present the Wind Energy Masterplan 2050, which will enable Switzerland to reduce its dependence on imports through wind energy, despite the electrification of heating and mobility.

About Suisse Eole
Swiss wind energy will become the mainstay of an electricity supply based on renewable energies: Suisse Eole, the association for the promotion of wind energy in Switzerland, estimates the potential of wind energy at 15% of current electricity consumption, provided that the Confederation, cantons, municipalities and population work hand in hand to implement the Energy Strategy 2050. The development of wind energy goes hand in hand with central sustainability criteria and takes account of protected areas of national importance. Suisse Eole, the association for the promotion of wind energy in Switzerland, was founded in 1998 and currently has around 290 members.
