From 1 March to the end of 2013, the City of Yverdon-les-Bains, through the Energy Service (SEY), is implementing two actions aimed at reducing the electricity consumption of its inhabitants: it will subsidise the purchase of new energy-efficient household appliances and will offer 300 power strips. These actions are part of the City's policy of responsible electricity consumption.
An amount of CHF 50,000, taken from the "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund" managed by the Energy Advisory Commission, will be used to finance an incentive to replace old household appliances with the most efficient models on the market. This action will provide an effective incentive for households wishing to reduce their environmental impact and, at the same time, substantially reduce their energy bills. For example, a refrigerator of energy efficiency class A++ consumes up to 50% less energy than a conventional new model (class A+), currently still available on the market. Compared to a model that is ten years old or more, the electrical energy absorbed will be divided by three.
This aid, which can be up to CHF 300 depending on the type of appliance, will be reimbursed after the exchange of an old appliance, on presentation of the ad-hoc form and a copy of the invoice. It is limited to residents of the municipality and businesses in Yverdon.
In addition, an additional CHF 10,000 will make it possible to offer households in Yverdon a multi-socket strip with automatic cut-off which, when used with a computer or television, will simply and effectively reduce the standby consumption of electronic leisure equipment. This strip will be available directly from the SEY counter from 4 March 2013, while stocks last.
Through these actions, which may be renewed in the future, the City of Yverdon-les-Bains, which has had the Cité de l'énergie label since October 2010, wishes to raise awareness among its population of the importance of the theme of "energy efficiency", which represents the first pillar of the Federal Council's Energy Strategy 2050.
