Natural gas even more advantageous in Yverdon-les-Bains in 2016, despite the increase in theCO2tax
Good news for customers purchasing natural gas from the Yverdon-les-Bains Energy Service (SEY). In correlation with the continuing fall in oil and gas prices, the Municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains has decided to lower the municipal natural gas tariff from 1 January 2016. This reduction will apply to all customers, despite the increase in the federalCO2 tax.
From 1 January 2016, a four-person household in Yverdon will see its annual natural gas bill fall by almost CHF 180 compared with the current conditions (includingCO2 tax and VAT). This reduction of more than 9% makes natural gas even more accessible and competitive in Yverdon-les-Bains.
Motorists with natural gas engines will not be left behind, since the price of natural gas fuel (CNG) at the pump will also fall as of January 1, 2016. On that date, the equivalent of a litre of natural gas fuel will cost only CHF 0.99 including tax, which is almost 50 centimes less per litre than other fuels.
Details of the 2016 tariff are available on the municipality's website www.ylb.ch/tarifs-gaz.
FederalCO2 tax increases
TheCO2 tax is being increased from the beginning of next year because the emission reduction targets in the fuel sector are not being met at the national level. In 2014,CO2 emissions in Switzerland amounted to 78.5%, compared to the target of 76%. As a result, from 1 January 2016, the federal tax will increase from CHF 60 to CHF 84 per tonne ofCO2 emitted, i.e. by 40%.
On the basis of an annual fuel consumption of 20,000 kWh, this will result in an increase in the annual bill of around CHF 90 for natural gas (+0.45 cents excl. VAT per kilowatt-hour) and CHF 120 (+0.60 cents excl. VAT per kilowatt-hour) for heating oil.
