The new photovoltaic power plant installed on the roofs of the buildings of STRID SA was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. The power plant, which has been gradually put into operation since December 2014, aims to produce 600,000 kWh/year, which is equivalent to the average annual consumption of 190 households.
The City of Yverdon-les-Bains and the company STRID SA, which is in charge of waste management in Northern Vaud, inaugurated on Wednesday 17 June 2015 the new photovoltaic power station installed on the roofs of the various buildings of the waste management centre. This power station offers six different exhibitions on a surface of 4'000m2. It has a maximum power of 600 kW and can produce up to 600'000 kWh/year, which corresponds to the needs of about 190 households consuming on average 3'200 kWh/year.
This new photovoltaic installation, seven times more powerful than the participatory solar power plant installed on the roofs of a building in the Science and Technology Park, is placed under the operating responsibility of the Energy Service. The cost of this project amounts to CHF 1,250,000, divided equally between STRID SA and Yverdon-les-Bains. It is a low-risk investment, as the technology is mastered and the project is profitable and sustainable.
STRID SA wanted to make use of the energy potential offered by the various roofs of its buildings and thus complement its various activities related to the preservation of resources and the environment. Without wanting to become an energy producer itself, it found in the partnership with the City of Yverdon-les-Bains a very interesting opportunity to develop this potential which is integrated into its environmental policy.
The Municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains and STRID SA are happy to see this project come to fruition. It is in line with the two partners' desire to take concrete action in the field of sustainable development, particularly in the production of electricity from renewable sources. The City of Yverdon-les-Bains is pursuing an ambitious objective in this area, based on a responsible energy policy, the achievements of which make it possible to reduce the city's environmental footprint. Between now and 2020, the Municipality wishes to produce locally 20% of the city's energy needs from renewable energy sources, more than a quarter of which will come from solar power. This new power plant on the roofs of STRID SA is a concrete step towards this goal!
