In its meeting of 26 June 2014, the Yverdon-les-Bains Town Council accepted the investment credit of CHF 1'000'000.- intended to finance a district heating system for the Thermal Centre and, subsequently, for the Grand Hôtel des Bains, from an installation based at the Yverdon-les-Bains Hospital. The partners in this project welcome this decision, which reinforces their desire to develop efficient and intelligent energy solutions.
The City of Yverdon-les-Bains welcomes the credit granted by the municipal legislature to finance the installation of district heating in the Thermal Centre and, in a second stage, in the Grand Hôtel des Bains, from a new installation realized on the Yverdon site of the Etablissements Hospitaliers du Nord Vaudois (eHnv). This favourable decision by the City Council makes it possible to carry out an energy project coordinated between various local partners in order to achieve economies of scale and improve profitability.
The CHF 1 million loan granted will enable the City to co-finance the heat production plant at the eHnv, so that it can also meet the needs of the Thermal Centre and the Grand Hôtel des Bains, and to create the transport and energy connection infrastructure between the establishments concerned. The Thermal Centre and the Grand Hôtel des Bains will finance the installation of heat exchangers on their respective sites, in order to benefit from the heat produced at the eHnv, and distributed by the Yverdon-les-Bains Energy Service (SEY), via its first district heating network.
Work on the municipal infrastructure will start during the summer. Commissioning of the district heating system is scheduled for spring 2015. It will follow the installation of the new boilers at eHnv early next year. The realisation of this project will be one of the first steps in the City's desire to develop district heating solutions on its territory, using, as in this case, natural gas, or renewable energy sources in other projects (recovery of wastewater at the WWTP, geothermal energy).
The implementation of this district heating system is in line with the responsible and sustainable energy policy of the City of Yverdon-les-Bains and the eHnv and corresponds to the spirit of the legislation and policy of the Canton of Vaud in this area. For both partners, this type of joint solution represents one of the concrete ways to meet the energy challenges of the 21st century.
